Interviewing PintSizedBeauty

Friday, 5 February 2016

Wow. It has been a hot minute. I have been very busy this morning and was unable to blog but I am back. For today's post, I interviewed on of my favourite bloggers at the moment who is Lily, the blogger behind PintSizedBeauty. To find out more about the lovely lady behind the blog, keep reading below.

1. A small introduction of your blog.
I am Lily and I write a blog called Pint Sized Beauty; a blog that caters for those who are obsessed with beauty, are copper crazy and are looking for someone to indulge their cravings and enable their guilty pleasures.

2. What inspired you to start blogging?
I was getting really stressed out with sixth form and I wanted to create myself an escape where I could share my love for makeup and in the process try out a different style of photography. This was my second attempt at starting a blog; my first go was a bit naive and half-hearted but the second time around I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do and what I wasn't prepared to compromise on.

3. Your photography is beautiful. What camera/editing programmes do you use?
I tend to stick to my Canon 600D with 50mm lens and Photoshop, but I do like to switch things up and use my iPhone 6S every now and again. For me I need a photo before I can start writing; I jot down ideas but it is the picture that inspires me to write. I've experimented with studio lights and all sorts of camera trickery to find a style I am happy with. In the end, I came full circle and work entirely with natural light and knowing my camera settings and how to get the best from them. This does lead to some minor meltdowns when the light keeps changing but when it works I feel it really works.

4. How long have you been blogging for and what are your favourite parts of blogging?
I started my blog in November 2014 and I instantly fell in love with the community and how inspired blogging made me feel about day-to-day life. I adore those who spread the love and support other bloggers; when someone you fan-girl over replies to a tweet, compliments a photo or comments on a post it can boost you a ridiculous amount. Equally when a complete stranger takes the time to say something positive it is a huge compliment.

5. Where do you see yourself in 2 years? Personally and blog wise.
Of course I would love to go full time with my blog in the next two years and maybe even start a YouTube channel, but I try and not plan too far ahead with it all. I am a photographer and since setting my site up ( - Cheeky plug!) several months ago I have felt more inspired to carry on improving and exploring various areas of photography. I hope I'm still feeling inspired, creative and all that jazz; possibly dabbling in a little interior, lifestyle and maybe even blogging about babies in the future.

6. 4 tips you'd give to people who are starting to blog.
1. Always remember that it's your blog so you can do whatever you like with it. If you don't want to write a blog post then don't. If you want to try out a new blog series then do so. Just have fun.

2. Work hard and play with what you love. Whether you prefer the writing of a blog post, the photography or you like both equally, it is important to just enjoy it so it never feels like work or as if you're forcing content out.

3. Being nice to other bloggers, retweeting the content you love and replying to your readers on social media are great ways to spread the love and interact. We are a community not a competition!

4. Put yourself into your writing and photography. Don't try and emulate anyone else; everyone has their own voice and turn of phrase and sees beauty in different things. Embrace that and be yourself; people will relate to that and love you for it, even if you are loopy! (some of my favourite people in the blogging community are the crazy ones!)

7. Who are your favourite bloggers?
I have so many different blogs that I go to for different advice. Kate La Vie and From Roses are two that give me serious photo envy, but I have been loving At Home With Abby for interior inspiration and That's Just Fabulous for my makeup fix.

8. Would you ever start a YouTube Channel as a way to expand your blog?
I would love to. I have a few video ideas in the pipeline, but I just need the right equipment and enough time to get started now. I always think I sound weird when my voice is recorded and will be really self-conscious to begin with but yes, it's on the 'to do' list...

9. What is your favourite makeup brand?
As a beauty junkie this is one hard question. It's definitely a toss-up between Nars and Charlotte Tilbury, although I do always gravitate towards Bourjois, Tom Ford and MAC.

10. Aside from blogging about makeup, would you ever change anything about your blog?
I have started to focus on more fashion and lifestyle oriented posts recently and I have a few interior posts lined up. I want my blog to feature a bit more of me in 2016.

11. What is your favourite blogging platform? Bloggger, Squarespace or Wordpress?
I use Blogger, I love it and I don't have any intentions of moving anytime soon as I find it really easy to use and it's the perfect platform to start on.

Thank you so much, Lily, for this interview.
