Reflecting On 2017

Sunday, 31 December 2017

The last day of the year is always known as the "reflection day"; the day where everyone looks back at what they did throughout the year. The day where everyone remembers all the lessons that they learnt, the fallbacks, the surprises, the tears, the laughter and the joy. For me, 2017 was an interesting year in which I learnt a lot about myself and the people that I have surrounded myself with. Would I change a lot about this year? Yes I would but do I regret any of the things I did or said? No, because they made me who I am today.

The year started in my favourite month, the first month, my birthday month of January where I celebrated my birthday. January was also the month that I started to learn more about my fitness journey and where I want to be, I started taking the gym a lot more seriously and thoroughly enjoyed myself. This year it is fair to say that I have embraced my love for the gym even further, I have been able to train a few people (I'm not certified yet) and I have been able to become stronger. Not just in the ability to lift heavier weights or squat lower, but my stamina has improved immensely. Before, I was only able to exercise for roughly 30 minutes but as time went on, I can go up to 1 1/2 hours.

This year I began to embrace my natural hair more, I finally got it straightened after 2 years of starting my natural hair journey and I am so happy with how much my hair has grown. I tried out new hairstyles and my love for box braids. Not only did I embrace my natural hair, I embraced my love for fashion. I've always felt like my fashion style was always set back because I was always worried about what others may think of my outfits, but honestly, I couldn't care less. I'm slowly adding some more outfits to my collection that I love and are different!

In the many years of my life, there are 3 years that would be one of the most lessons learnt years, I'd have to say that 2017 was a learning year for me. I became stronger, I didn't let the small stupid things get to me, I started to care less. I only focused on positive energies and things that would only bring me happiness. I started to accept that not everyone will love you for who you are, that not everyone has the same heart as you or that not everyone understands. I also started to understand that someone friendships don't work out but that's not entirely my fault but just the way life goes.

I worked with a couple of brands on my blog which was amazing and I had a lot of fun! I can't wait for more opportunities as the new year comes in. I changed my set up in photos which I loved, I added more props and tried different angles. All I need now is a new camera ;).

Towards the end of the year I had my first photoshoot in a couple of years and I loved it! I can't wait for many many more, it was different and I'm slowly starting to get used to being behind the camera.

My favourite memories in numbers...

8,383 minutes of Spotify

14 new genres explored

6,684 likes on Instagram

6 trainers bought this year

My favourite memories....

I went out more, I ate, I drank, I laughed, I squatted more, I had two massages, I danced, I sang, I treated myself, I bought more clothes, I bought trainers, I had another dining experience, I started driving lessons, I became a student, I hugged multiple people, I cried but most important I learnt a LOT.

My Favourite Albums of All Time

Wednesday, 15 November 2017

I've always had an obsession with music for the longest time and no matter what I am doing there is always music involved, whether that is I who is singing or just playing music generally. With that being said there are a few albums that I always find myself listening to from time to time...

1. Take Care by Drake

I feel like everyone knows who Drake is, his song Hotline Bling topped charts literally everywhere! I loved Drake for a very long time and with his multitude of albums there are only two albums that I always find myself playing over and over again. I love all of the songs on this album without fail especially "Doing It Wrong" the lyrics are so good and very relevant. I feel like this was the album that showed his range in music but also his inner thoughts (getting real deep here hahaha).

2. Nothing Was The Same by Drake

I remember that day that this album came out, I wasn't that hyped but then I heard it and I was instantly hooked. Still to this day the songs "Own It" and "Come Thru" would have to be my ultimate favourites but then again I do love "The Motion". Ahhh, see it's hard! I just love this album so much, I love his voice in each song.. I don't know it's just great and worth the listen!

3. Souled Out by Jhene Aiko.

Jhene Aiko is one of those artists that you listen on days that you want to relax and have deep thoughts or even on nights of revision. I love listening to her voice daily and this album has to be one of my favourites albums. I especially love the song Promises with her daughter, I love the lyrics and the value of the song is incredible. Each song on this album is beautiful from Wading to Lyin King. It's a true recommendation.

4. TRAPSOUL by Bryson Tiller

Bryson Tiller is the voice that came to life a few years ago, the famous song "Don't" still has many of us trying to say it at the end of the song (if you know, you know). His album Trapsoul is absolutely amazing! The songs "Right My Wrongs" and "For However Long" would have to be some of my favourites on this album. I love the fact that this album is easy to understand and the title shows that.

5. Thriller by Micheal Jackson

Why not end it with an ultimate classic album?! Michael Jackson, an artist and a great performer. I loved this album especially on days where I am doing a lot of things, I love to weave some of the songs on this album into my playlists. There isn't one song on this album I don't like, I just love listening to his voice on this album!

What are your favourite albums of all time?
